I had an ectopic pregnancy March 2023, and it’s now August and I’m pregnant again. I’m so blessed to be pregnant again so soon. We got pregnant on the first month of us trying. I waited 4 months for everything to fully heal after my keyhole surgery where they removed my right fallopion tube. I haven’t gotten my first scan yet and I’m so scared. Every little symptom I feel comes with paranoia that it’s another ectopic. All I can do is wait until I know more. I don’t think I’ll ever fully get over the trauma of what happened but I survived and I’ll survive anything that happens.

I’m 3 days post-op from an emergency laparoscopic removal of my right Fallopian tube that ruptured due to an ectopic pregnancy. I didn’t realize how dangerous this all was until after everything had happened. I too was having “off” periods with spotting (which is not normal for me) but I chalked it up to be because I had a D and C for a missed miscarriage back in December. Today is Sunday and on Wednesday night I had some weird side pain that I chalked up to me getting ready to ovulate. Next day the pain intensified rapidly. I called OB who got me in within an hour to check. I thought I was having a torsion of my ovary because my mom had one when she was younger. After doing an ultrasound and seeing nothing in uterus and blood flow to ovary, doctor said I needed to go to the ER due to my pain level but had me do a pregnancy test. I was thinking “why” I just had my second period after a d and c?! To my shock it was positive and I burst into tears knowing it meant ectopic (background is nursing too and all of this was a shock). We go to hospital and my pain continues to get worse as we wait for another ultrasound to just verify everything. After a few hours waiting and the ultrasound was finally over I caved to medication (was holding off incase there was any chance of viability) I start vomiting from pain (I gave birth to two healthy boys without epidural if that tells you anything). As soon as I start vomiting and groaning in agonizing pain even after dilaudid, the team starts rushing and telling me they confirmed it’s ectopic and believe it has ruptured and we’re preparing the OR. My OB made it and was amazing and I ended up with best case scenario (timing, no blood transfusion, and no wide open cutting). The recovery has been okay but the WORST part is the gas pain from the CO2!!!! They said one to two days and it’s still very present even with walking a lot and sitting up (drinking tea, heating pad, laying on back, charcoal tabs, etc.) If it wasn’t for this gas build up I would have been feeling so much more normal within 24hrs (the incisions were so small and not very tender). I agree, never expected a miscarriage let alone a back to back one with the second being ectopic. I never really heard about them other than in nursing school and now I know why, they are rare. I also did not have any underlying risk factors with age, smoking, iud, pelvic inflammatory disease, STI, etc. Hope this blog and comments help others feel not alone. With miscarriage like you said, it’s a common club but with ectopic I have never met anyone to date that has ever talked about having one.

I had to deal with a male nurse who annoyed me because he kept asking if how much I bled. I told him I soaked a maxi pad in a minute. I had to sit on the toilet, passing hand sized clots and pads couldn’t handle it. Anyway after beeling for hours, hubby to me to the military ER. Where 2 very scared females preformed a d&c. Noone told me what was about to happen. I wasn’t given ANY pain killers, nothing. It was excruciating pain. My poor husband’s hand was covered in my nail marks. But since I’m not a screamer I may have “looked” like I was just sad and “uncomfortable “. Idk if there was a miscommunication between the nurse and the on call doc or something, but my case wasn’t normal. And with military hospital personnel, they are often young people in their 20s, and the preforming “physician” was definitely scared of whatever she was doing. Luckily it worked and I stopped hemorrhaging. But it’s still a bad memory 8 years later.

I don’t even know where to start. My Husband and I had our first embryo transfer on 4/28/22. Pregnancy test on 5/7/22, results were positive!
A total of 4 blood hcg test, all positive. I had some spotting that concerned me so at 5 weeks and 1 day I went in for an Ultrasound but was told it was probably too soon to see anything. I had cramping on and off but was told that as long as the two weren’t happening at the same time there was no concern. I felt like something was off. So the day of my original scheduled Ultrasound at 6 weeks and 3 days is when we found that I had an ectopic pregnancy. I was told that I needed to head to the hospital right away because if I had a rupture I would have internal bleeding that could be fatal; I needed emergency surgery. My Husband and I went directly from my appointment at the clinic to the emergency department. I had to wait up to 8 hours because I had breakfast before my appointment and due to anesthesia, you can not have food or drink a certain amount of hours before. My pregnancy was in my right tube but we decided to have both tubes removed to lower the chances of this happening again when we do ivf.

I had an emergency surgery for my ruptured ectopic about a month ago. After surgery my levels dropped intitially and then began to rise again. They thought there may be another pregnancy in a different unknown location. I received a shot of methotrexate. My HCG went up at the 4 day but dropped 10 percent at 7 days. I go back in Tuesday for my next blood work and am praying I do not need another shot, but am lying in bed feeling mild pain and weird fluttering in my stomach.. I honestly just want this to be over. We have done fertility treatments for 5 years and thought this was a miracle, until it became a bit of a nightmare… Has anyone had this happen? Outcomes? Thank you all for sharing your experiences. Prayers to all of you.

I am in a similar situation, having lost both of my tubes in surgery. I know this comment was quite some time ago, but how are you doing now? What helped you get through your trauma?

As hard as it is, im going to tell you my story.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 15 I am now 32 my periods are quite irregular, I previously had tests done early 2021 twice which showed that I was not ovulating so there was no chance I could fall pregnant naturally.

I had an ectopic pregancy in November 2021, I was 3 months pregnant and had no idea.
I got my periods normal until October I continued to bleed it started off not as heavy and it got worse, I ignored it thinking it would just go away, 5 weeks past and I was clotting and I started to feel pain on my lower left side, it would come and go.
Weeks before that I was feeling shortness of breathe and I was extremely emotional, everytime someone spoke to me I would cry, it was just out of my control.

I decided to go to the doctors and have a scan done, at the time I was going through alot of stress I had lost my job due to covid things were tough, the doctor didn’t even bother to check me and said that things like this can happen if you are stressed.
I had booked to get a scan done, although the blood just wouldn’t stop at this point, I gave up and had my mum take me to the hospital emergency the next day, once they checked my urine I found out the best news I could ever ask for “I was pregnant” which I thought wasn’t possible as I was told I don’t ovulate.
They booked me in to see the early pregnancy clinic 2 days later.
During those 2 days I was so sick.
I went to the early pregnancy clinic and they did an ultrasound, I was in the room for so long, they had the screen turned so I couldn’t see it, then the doctor broke the devastating news to me that there is no baby, the egg got stuck in my left fallopian tube and had to be removed immediately because it was life threatening.
This was the worst day of my life, I fell to the ground and I started to scream, my legs & body felt so numb.
After having surgery my body hasn’t felt the same.

Till this day, I grieve with my fiancè everyday over our loss and I blame my body & my health for it.

My doctor referred me to see a counsellor, although I can’t seem to pull myself together and go im afraid of what they will say to me.

I would never wish for anyone to go through this tragic experience.
I love babies but I struggle so much being around them or seeing pregnant ladies because it reminds me of what I was meant to have!

I wish you all the very best and hope that you have a healthy pregnancy in the future!

I have endless support and dual emotions with it because I’m so grateful to still be here… I almost wasn’t from my rupture. Thank you for your story and being willing to share. Connecting with the few who’ve experienced an ectopic is some of the only comfort I can find. It’s already so rare of an occurrence but it seems to be even harder to find someone willing to tell their story. I feel compelled to share mine with people I know and have no clue where to start. I’d love to be there for someone else too. My love to you!
